Labour Party Conference

The champion of boom and bust continues to be deluded. Not only has he managed to near bankrupt our country, sold off the family gold at a rediculously low price but now wants a fourth term for labour as he hasn't finished his programme yet...

At the root of the problem is the fact that this generation has been living on credit and particularly those that haven't been able to afford it. The message he's loudly proclaiming is that debt doesn't matter. At the moment interest rates are low. They won't stay low forever and our debt sooner or later is going to cripple us. The pound is in free fall against the Euro and this in itself will fuel inflation. Then take the 175 Billion £ of quantative easing and we've got ourselves a nice little mix that will further spiral the economy out of control. We're by no means through the worst!

During his speech yesterday, Gordon continued to spout his vision promising all sorts for a better Britain. Where the money was coming from was of course not mentioned. A bit more QE I guess!

Electoral reform is the only thing that I got excited about. But then, he'll have a referendum once they've been re-elected. Why? If he really wants proportional representation then why not get on with it and have a referendum now?

Let's see what the Tories have to say next week.

Importing the JK Part 3

Patience is not J33PER's virtue! The saga of the Jeep's import is still going on. This week, we were meant to be on holiday in the South of France driving the JK. Unfortunately, this is not the case. The JK was not SVA tested last week and it isn't going to happen for another two weeks. On the positive side, Shipmycar.co.uk now have ample of time to get the proper Jeep parts fitted to the Jeep as requested. So when should we expect to finally be able to drive her? Well, your guess is as good as mine. It's a jolly long process and trying my patience...

Importing the JK Part 2

It's the day before the JK is undergoing its SVA test. In any case, that was the plan according to Shipmycar. It arrived at their depot in Milton Keynes yesterday so they have literally a day and a half to prep the Jeep. From day one I insisted they use proper Jeep/Mopar parts and offered them part numbers. First things first; let's hope it passes and secondly that they used the right parts. Imagine some nasty Land Rover parts being used to make it road legal in the UK! Anyway, must stay positive and keep fingers, legs and arms crossed for tomorrow. If it doesn't pass, you can expect another blog entry containing strong language tomorrow!

Web development with RapidWeaver

J33PER has recently changed his entire website. For years DreamWeaver has been used with varying success but J33PER never managed to get the look and feel he required. Then with the acquisition of a Mac Mini, iWeb was tried. Unfortunately iWeb is too restrictive and not optimized for recognition by search engines to name but an issue. In fact J33PER is a tad upset that Apple feels it can call iWeb a web development tool.

Anyway, after a bit of searching, J33PER found RapidWeaver. This software is amazing and what;s more, there is a user community out there developing some excellent add-ins to the RapidWeaver product. If you're using a Mac, check it our here.

Long story short; J33PER has just added the facility of commenting on his blog pages. This is pretty cool and we're hoping you'll use it. In fact, why not try it out now!

iPhone Upgrade to 3.1

Apple decided to release the new iTunes version 9.0 together with version 3.1 of the iPhone 3Gs on Wednesday. Unfortunately, I read Shane Richmond's blog in today's Telegraph a little too late. Also I decided to download and install today. That was a big mistake. Shane states that there were two varieties of the mishap... a restore of a previous version for the iPhone or a total lockout. Fortunately, J33PER didn't suffer the latter.

J33PER has had total faith in Apple's iPhone and this mishap today has dented that considerably. How is it possible for a company with that many customers to get it so wrong. It isn't even as if they have a lot of different hardware running that software. Thumbs down Apple J33PER is sorry to say. Funnily enough, J33PER still loves his iPhone, just not Apple that much anymore.

Moral of the story; don't try to be at the bleeding edge of technology and wait for at least two weeks before installing updates.

Importing the JK Part 1

After having spent a year in the US, it was time to get the JK to the UK. After lots of research, J33PER found www.shipmycar.co.uk, got in touch and decided they should deal with the import. After having paid half the total cost, paperwork and instructions arrived in March 2009. On my trip to Easter Jeep Safari, the title document was dropped of to the shipping company in Gardena which is close to LAX. The actual vehicle finally got to the shippers on June 5th after the hardtop was exchanged due to a crack. Finally, on around the 16th of August shipmycar.co.uk got in touch to say that the vehicle was about to arrive. On August 24th J33PER received notice from HM Customs that the JK was cleared through customs. The way that shipmycar.co.uk works is that they set out the timescales at the beginning and if you don't hear anything all is running as expected. It is now September 7th and I am getting very itchy! Has the vehicle had any work done on it yet (indicators, lenses, rear light cluster and fog light)? Has it passed the SVA test? Has the SVA test been booked? You're not meant to contact shipmycar.co.uk and I don't want to make a nuisance of myself. The next time I should hear from shipmycar.co.uk is when they want an insurance cover note so that the JK can get a proper UK V5 document. The waiting goes on....
