The iPad
The iPad has been launched in the UK on May 28th, 2010. J33PER was lucky enough to get hold of one well before that date. Mike was so kind as to get one from Apple's Irvine (CA) store. Saved a bit of money and J33PER had it before most here in the UK. The model in question is the 64Gb Wi-Fi version, thus no 3G.
Since getting the iPad, J33PER hasn't touched his Windows driven Netbook. Do I miss not being able to see Flash video? No, it's simply a minor annoyance. Can you afford to swap a netbook/laptop for an iPad. In my case definitely as I have found some great apps that allow me to do serious stuff. Documents To Go is such an example.

Tethering
The reason why J33PER didn't think he wanted the 3G model was that with the iPhone at hand, the iPhone would be able to take care of the Internet connection when out of range with the iPad of Wi-Fi. This assumption was wrong as Steve Jobs decided that tethering the iPad to the iPhone is blocked.

Cons
- Heavy, positioning can be an issue
- Inability to tether to iPhone
- No GPS chip
The iPad is a large iPod Touch whatever way you look at it. It is a luxury item. As my eyesight is waning, the larger screen makes life easier. It is lacking a camera but I've overcome this by installing the "Camera for iPad" app which enables the iPhone's camera to be used by the iPad. The inability to tether the device to the iPhone is my biggest bone of contention by far.
As I was using bookmarks and numerous passwords for frequently visited sites shared amongst a number of devices, the iPad soon became a pain as Xmarks isn't available for the iPad. After some searching, 1Password was deployed on all devices including PCs, Mac, iPhone and iPad. This solved this issue. Surfing the net is something that is great on the iPad even if Adobe Flash files cannot be played on this device. As it happens, I thoroughly dislike Adobe anyway so hopefully, web developers will soon drop that as the preferred way of presenting video.
The iPad would be ideal to use in the Jeep for navigation. Unfortunately, my iPad does not have a GPS chip. It didn't even occur to me that Apple would leave that out. It goes to show that you can't even trust Apple anymore to simply do the right thing.
Over the coming months, I shall add further stuff to this page. For now though, I would say that the iPad does not further enhance my view of Apple as a company as I believe that they have short changed early adopters.
